FAQ

Q: What is the GameRunner?
A: In short, the First Person GameRunner (patent pending) is a treadmill for playing first person shooters. The controller is a set of handlebars that the user steers and aims with as they walk around. This is much like riding a bike. The triggers and buttons can be configured ingame to whatever preferences the user has for interacting with the game world. If the user walks slow, they move slow, if they walk fast they move fast, etc.

Q: How does it work?
A: The GameRunner plugs in to your USB port and functions as a keyboard and mouse. The entire unit draws all the power it needs through USB. Aiming with the handlebars controls the mouse and walking on the treadmill controls the keyboard. Righthand controller buttons are designated as mouse buttons and lefthand controller buttons are designated keyboard buttons. Treadmill motion is measured optically and movement keys follow internal 'steps' that the GameRunner sees with treadmill motion to allow for the ingame movement speed to correspond with treadmill speed.

Q: What is it like to play on?
A: The learning curve for aiming/maneuvering in an FPS on the GameRunner is significantly smaller than the learning curve for playing with the standard keyboard and mouse. FPS veterans will find the GameRunner's design and implementation very sensible. Those who have never played any FPS learn on the GameRunner very quickly.

Q: Does it work for all games?
A: First person shooter games that are played using keyboard and mouse work wonderfully with the GameRunner. The GameRunner is virtually supported by nearly every FPS ever made. There are plenty of controller buttons for the user to not feel like they need their keyboard for extra buttons.

Q: I play for hours, how would I be able to run for that long?
A: Players wouldn't last very long if they had to run and the experience would be ruined. This is exactly why the GameRunner is tuned for walking. The longer you play on the GameRunner the longer you walk and that keeps your heart rate up. Gaming doesn't have to be unhealthy!

Q: How the heck do you strafe?
A: The back and strafe buttons allow you to effectively direct your walking motion. So if you are moving and press a strafe button, you will be strafing instead of moving forward. Simple.

Q: What games does the GameRunner support?
A: The better question, is what games support the GameRunner. The answer is short and sweet, any first person game that you would normally play using the keyboard and mouse.
